Preparation of Dry Fish Thokku

Ingredients

  1. 7-8 dry fish pieces
  2. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  3. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  4. 3 tsp Oil
  5. 2 big sized onion
  6. 4 small tomatoes
  7. 2 tsp chopped coriander leaves
  8. 10 curry leaves
  9. to taste Salt
  10. As needed Water
  11. 4-5 garlic pods
  • Soak the dry fish pieces in hot water for 10 minutes.
  • Wash it 4-5 times after draining the hot water.
  • Finely chop the onions and garlic.
  • Grind the tomato coarsely.
  • Heat oil in a Kadai, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds once the mustard seeds start to crackle and splutter.
  • Add the finely chopped onions and stir it till it turns translucent in colour
  • Add salt very little amount salt since dry fishes already contains salt
  • Next add the grinded tomato in it and cook till tomatoes turns mushy next add turmeric powder and chilli powder mix it once and let it cook for few minutes till the raw smell goes away.
  • Once it starts to boil add the dry fishes and cook it till the dry fishes are fully cooked
  • Now garnish it with coriander leaves and serve it hot with rice
